The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has launched on Amazon Prime Video. Jeff Bezos, owner of the American giant, spoke during the premiere on the red carpet.

Jeff Bezos was present during Amazon Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series premiere. The CEO of Amazon explained that he participated in some way in the creation of the series, but also how his own family pressured him !

Bezos left notes for the showrunners

Amazon will launch tomorrow the most expensive series of all time, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. If the sums invested already put a some pressure on production to render a work of quality, it is nothing next to the fanbase. Indeed, when we adapt the universe of Tolkien, we know that all the fans of the works of Middle-earth will scrutinize us, while waiting for the faux pas! If we do not yet have feedback from fans until the series is launched, we know a little more about the creative process. During the premiere, Jeff Bezos returned to the choice of the writing teamin particular the showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne, two names little known until then but who have been working together for two decades. Bezos rightly explains that this choice has asked a lot of peoplebut that he absolutely does not regret it:

Every showrunner’s dream is to get early script notes and script cuts from the executive chairman, they love it! (laughs) I want to thank you both for listening whenever it helped, but most of all I have to thank you for ignoring me at exactly the right time! (…)

Although some people questioned our choice, one of the best decisions we made was to bet on this relatively unknown team because we saw something special in them.

Objective: “not to mess up”

The Lord of the Rings: Jeff Bezos was ordered to "don't screw it up" with Amazon series

Indeed, Bezos has regularly sent notes to the showrunnersbut as you read above, he mostly thanked them for having been ignored. Something to show those responsible for the series which cost its platform so much, that they had won their bet in the eyes of the billionaire. The latter wanted the series to be of quality, in particular because his own family pressured him when he learned that Amazon was planning to create a Lord of the Rings series:

My son is a huge Tolkien fan and after Amazon got involved he came up to me, looked me in the eye and said, “Dad, please don’t screw this up. “. (“don’t eff this up,” sic).

See you tomorrow on Amazon Prime Video to discover the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
