How do I create a ranking question in Google Forms?

Among the thousands of projects put forward by Google, Google Forms occupies a special place thanks to the innovation it offers.

Indeed, Google Forms is a survey tool that makes it easier for businesses today to collect opinions, get job applicants to respond through forms, etc.

It’s free and part of G Suite. A cloud-based office suite that is very comprehensive and that many people call Google Docs.

In this same suite, you can also access other services included therein including Docs (Word), Sheets (Excel) and Slides (PowerPoint).

With Google Forms, it is possible to create a ranking question, but how? This is what you will discover in this post.

Google Forms provides users with different question types to help them create surveys generally. It is also useful for creating feedback forms or launching quizzes as needed for self-assessment.

However, if you want your respondents to rank lists of items during the process you have a reliable option. All you need to do is set it up. And for that, you will have to follow a number of steps.

For creating a ranking question in Google Forms, you can:

1 Use the Multiple Choice Grid question type

The multiple-choice Grid question type is practical and allows you to identify the maximum number of items to put in the lines. It also allows to use the columns to make the classifications as it should. It gives the possibility of limiting the answers at the level of the columns, which avoids receiving classified articles without two of them not having the same classification. This option can help you to require an answer at each line and you have the possibility to mix the lines.

2 Create the ranking question in Google Forms

Once you access Google Forms, you can create the ranking question by logging in to open the form you want to use. If you need to add a new query, you need to click on the plus sign while browsing the floating toolbar on the right.

Thereafter, you will need to use the list that opens to you at the top to the right of the question that comes and to choose the “Multiple choice grid” option. Thus, you can enter your question in the dedicated area and complete the elements that concern your subject. You can also add the rankings you plan to use as columns.

Moreover, for a reorganization of columns and rows, you just have to position your cursor on one of them. Swipe past the small grid icon on the left. This will help you move it up or down as you wish. However, if you need to get rid of a column or row you can press the “X” option to your right.

If you want to make a change in the order of the rows, you will have to click on the three points which are located on the left down. Thanks to this option, you will be able to press “& #8220” and “Random order of lines & #8221”.

To successfully create a quiz in Google Forms, you don’t have to worry because it won’t take you much time. Instead of trying to create a large form, you have the choice of dividing the same form into different parts, in order to share it more easily. However, you must make sure you have a good connection before starting.

Through a web browser you can create your quiz, because in reality, not all forms of Google Forms represent quizzes by default. You must then seek to activate the option “Make this form a quiz” before succeeding in defining:

  • The appropriate answers;
  • Scores;
  • And the comments.

To do this, simply click on the drop-down menu and click on “Short answer/Paragraph/Multiple choice/Checkboxes/Dropdown” to continue.
