Bill Gates is determined to get rid of his fortune. The illustrious co-founder of Microsoft has just donated six billion dollars in shares to the Bill-and-Melinda-Gates foundation. Despite the sale, he remains the fifth richest man on the planet, behind names like Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.
Bill Gates has just given away six billion dollars of his personal fortune. The illustrious founder of Microsoft has sold nearly $5.2 billion of shares in the Canadian National Railway Company for the benefit of the Bill-and-Melinda-Gates Foundation. Created in 2000, by the now divorced couple, the foundation aims in particular to fight against poverty and disease in the world.
The information appeared in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the watchdog of US financial markets. In another filing, we learn that Bill Gates also donated $995 million worth of Deere & Co. at its foundation. The company specializes in the production of agricultural equipment, such as tractors and combine harvesters. In total, more than three million shares were sold through Cascade Investment LLC, the American holding company in charge of Bill Gates’ fortune.
These donations are part of Bill Gates’ wish to ” give almost all from its fortune to its foundation. The billionaire plans to use most of his wealth to reduce suffering and improve lives ». With this in mind, the co-founder of Microsoft has undertaken to revise upwards the annual expenses of the foundation. Now the charity will donate $9 billion a year. To achieve this, he will start by giving in $20 billion from his personal fortune.
